Enlightenment. The one unifying purpose in all seekers of knowledge. But there is one very significant problem for anyone trying to delve into the realm of the Occult and the Spiritual.  So much of it is wrapped up in redundant mystery, and distorted by the designs of the petty, the meek... where do you turn to find the raw, untainted sources?  Or the concepts that inspire further discovery?
We here at the Horrorscope are not politically correct. Nor are we mendable to the latest, trendiest, touchy-feely propensities of society to dumb down the English language. (yes, this site is entirely in English)

For the uninitiated, the first true step in knowing the unknowable is understanding the mutability of a single language... it is called a Dictionary. Actually to be more precise, it comes down to cross-referencing a variety of sources, new and old, dictionaries & alleged historical facts.  Here is a true summary of this oft misquoted and misunderstood word with a little historic illumination to start you on your way.

Occultnoun:   In the most basic sense, the occult is nothing more than the "unknown," the "unseen," or a "secret".  It is a an ancient Latin word with the root "Occul," from which we derive the English word for Ocular (relating to the eyes: Occulere turned into Ocular). Once upon a time the full term for what we are discussing here at the Horrorscope was that of "Occult Sciences."  The study and pursuit of unraveling that which is unknown to the individual, or an entire and specific society.  A little genuine history will uncover that an effort to subvert such "impractical" and "thought provoking" occult pursuits occurred during the Imperial Roman era (much like the "occult" purge conducted in Nazi Germany), and thus we have the first instance of linguistic perversion. All in the name of political correctness.
The subsequent demonification of this field by the Catholic Romans is irrelevant as we are referring to true Latin, not the vulgate (some may rightly say that church Latin is the Ebonics of the true Latin dialect).

One could  argue that the original root definition means nothing if the majority of what has been practiced through the ages has been nothing more than mystic ego-pomp and spiritual charlatanry.  Shouldn't THAT be the definition of the field?
By that token does one classify the root values of Christianity as feverish genocidal butchery with a very large inbuilt closet of infant homosexuality?  Is the root purpose of Islam to be defined by pyromaniacal lemmings born of a single inbred chromosome?  Is the ancient, pre-imperial heritage of Europe to be collectively defined by the fifth rate faery tale abilities of infantile Neo-Nazis and "I live in a world of unthreatening unicorns" New Agers?

Some may say yes, and if you are defining a civilization and/or society, you must certainly define it by the majority that shaped its existence and reputation during a specific era.  But the Occult by its very nature is not part of society.  It is the knowledge beyond the collective, the desire to transmute the unknowable into a communicable base thread of knowledge.  The mere concept of an Occult Society is, in itself, bordering on gross hypocrisy.

A fancy book club?... Absolutely.

Something like a group of philosophers that get together and poke holes through each other's ponderings to further the learning process?... Sure.

A definitive movement that commandeers the word "occult" for itself, now and forever?... No!

This is the key to true occultism, no matter what the discipline. Understanding that it is, at heart, a personal pursuit in understanding.  Of course, there is a price to attaining greater understanding.  True knowledge, knowledge of profound value never comes for free.  That is, after all, why we refer to it as having value.

The end result of the Horrorscope, should you choose to consume the content we present, is that it is ultimately your responsibility.  The ultimate price you must pay in this life is that of time.  Will you commit a portion of your life to properly digest what you have consumed?  A portion of your time to genuinely THINK?
Or will you let out a pretentious huff and exclaim your recitation of superior knowing?  A recitation of the collective diatribe that you have been indoctrinated to chant in the face of the actual unknown?
